Working Together to Enrich Avery County and Beyond
The Woolly Worm Festival is proud to partner with Avery County Schools and Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation. Together, we support educational programs that benefit local students and contribute to the conservation and care of wildlife in the High Country. Join us in supporting these incredible initiatives by being part of the Woolly Worm Festival!

Our Partners
Avery County Schools

Every elementary and middle school student in Avery County will receive free admission to the festival on Sunday for themselves and one adult, along with discounted parking.
This year we’re also introducing the Avery County Tournament of Champions, with in-school races happening the week of October 7. Winners will receive a VIP race package that includes four festival tickets, priority parking, official Woolly Worm shirts, snack vouchers, and more. On Festival Sunday, the student race winner will take home a $50 cash prize, while the faculty edition winner will earn $100!
Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation

We’re proud to welcome the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation as our education partner for this year’s festival. Known for connecting people to the wonders of the natural world, the Foundation plays a vital role in conservation, education, and inspiring future generations.
As part of the Avery Advantage Program, Grandfather Mountain educators will visit Avery County schools in October to share the science and folklore of the woolly worm — and even join in on classroom races! Their involvement brings an extra layer of fun and learning, making the festival not just a weekend event but a season-long educational experience.
